Just wondering if anybody else has used this high impedance "ball" microphone for blues harp? It's been one of my main gigging mics for 35 years. Frequency response 50-13,000 MHz. Mine is actually PE585V, the V referring to the built in volume control. I've been playing it through my stock '62 Fender Concert amp for at least three decades, but have also played it through many other amps and P.A.s. It always sounds good. I think James Cotton played through one of the Shure 585 models for a while; Charlie Musselwhite too.
On a side note, I've got a Shure PE565 microphone that I've never used despite owning it for 30 years. Frequency response 50-15,000 Mz, going by memory. I've not used it because it has 4 pins at its end, and I don't have the cable for it.
Back to my main question-- anybody else using the 585 for blues harp? I know it's not a JT30 or Shure Bullet mic, but it's got its own good sound.
Cheers,

Yes, i am using 585 sometimes. Mostly as a backup but even in other situations. I can turn up the amp a few clics more with this mic before feedback.Comes in handy sometimes. It's rather clean mic, but with the right amp or setup it can sound more dirty. |
