90's FENDER DELUXE REVERB AMP HARP AMP????i was wondering if a Fender Deluxe tweed amp from 1994 with built in spring reverb would be any good for Blues Harp. I know people use the 90s Bassmans & Pro Jrs for Harp.
The tube line up on this two 5881 & 3 12AX7 - i thought it might work better if i swiched the pre amp tubes to lower gain like 5751 .
(i forgot what rectifier it had i think it might be GZ34 maybe its solid state recitifier
i have not tried this amp yet but i have the chance of buying one at a reasonble price. It is a very Loud 40 watts threw one 12 inch ceramic speaker.
The cab looks like it might fit two 10 inch jensen p10q's
i just wonderd if anybody else knew if this amp could work for Blues Harp.
I have 3 amps at the moment 2 Mascos one (combo) & a Premier 120 + a Premier 90 reverb head. as well as a small single ended tube amp from the 60s
I dont really need another harp amp but i like the idea of this been 40watts & having a built in reverb as well as it been dressed in its tweed suit + i cant help myself

90's FENDER DELUXE REVERB AMP HARP AMPHi Strawwoodclaw-- I've got a mid 90s Tweed covered Fender Blues Deluxe, if that's what you're talking about. I was never happy with the 12 inch speaker in it. I found two old (late 60s) 10 inch speakers and put them in instead. It's easily done if you've got a piece of plywood and a jigsaw to make two 10 inch holes for the new baffle. I'm simplifying a bit, but I'm neither a tech nor a carpenter, and I managed.
Luckily the speakers were 16 ohms, so, combined, they presented an 8 ohm load to the amp. (The output transformer can be switched to 4 ohms if you can only find two 8 ohm speakers).
I also put in some old preamp tubes from the 60s; essentially one 12ay7 in the V1 position (nearest the right side of the the amp, looking from the back) and two old 12ax7s in V2 and V3 (nearest the power tubes). These weren't new old stock tubes, just tubes I happened to have lying around. Philips and GE.
I usually play through an Astatic JT30 crystal microphone from the early 70s.
The amp sounds a WHOLE lot better now. I intend to eventually put in some old power tubes, but that awaits the installation of the bias kit I bought from Weber, since no bias adustment comes with the amp.
In summary-- two tens, old tubes = much better harp amp.
Cheers,

Re: 90's FENDER DELUXE REVERB AMP HARP AMPHi wolf kristiansen,
Thanks for your reply. I did not end up getting the amp it was on ebay & when the seller thought he was not going to get what he wanted for it so he withdrew his auction. I dont blame him..
I wonderd if it was possible to change the 12 to 2x10 , now i know thanks.
How is your 90s Deluxe for tone? I have 3 or 4 Harp amps that i am happy with. The one i use when i ever go to the local is a Masco Head made into a combo with 4 8's i have a few other vinatge amps too. I used to have a HG30 but i preferd my vintage amps each to there own.
I liked the thought of the 90s Deluxe having 40 watts & having a built in spring reverb. maybe if i see one further down the line i might give it a try.
Cheer's

Hi strawwoodclaw-- The tone, with the tube and speaker changes, is great. I wrote about it at length in another forum. If you're interested, go here:
