electrovoice 605 Low ZHi guys,
I found a nice old 605 for sale but it is lowZ
I have used some other low z mics with a cheap transformer (SURE 58 and a low Z green bullet) and they sounded great. I have heard that the hi z models are good but I have never tried one. Do you think a transformer will make the difference or are the two mics different creatures altogeather? Any thoughts welcome.
Thanks .

transformer is all you need. There's no inherent advantage or disadvantage for a mic in terms of tone or feedback rejection based on impedance.

Another thing to consider, especially if it doesn't give you the sound that you're looking for, is putting a CM or CR in there. I've got one that I put a CM in that is one of my favourites.

Re: electrovoice 605 Low ZIf you use the mic as low Z it will not push your pre amp tubes & give you that distorted chicago blues sound that Harp players want.
The sound will just sound like it does normally acousticly .
When you hook a Hi Z mic up to Harp amp or vintage amp the Amp will HONK if its a guitar amp it will squeel feedback.
you can have a low to high Z transformer fitted into your mic . Dave Wren at the Harp mic shop is good for this -
