Calrad DM-9

I NEED HELP..................... Cool

Boy when I fall off the wagon I usually drop a 1000 or more on an amp. I guess some of us have lower bottoms than others. Congratulations. Hope it sounds great. d                 http://www.myspace.com/blowintheblues

Yea......it's not the amount of money......it's just ANOTHER mic.....  It's becoming harder and harder to hide them from my wife...... Laughing

I just can't help myself......I see a deal and I go for it.......I have more gear (mostly mics) for a guy who can't play much and has never had an audience larger than our cat............. Very Happy

Hi I'm James and I'm a gear addict

This is an interesting subject, and although we can make jokes, I think I have a serious problem. I have no wife to hide them from, so other than money, there is nothing to stop me. I have guitars that I haven't even seen or played in a couple of years, I do make a point of powering up the amps on a fairly regular basis, but I have a B3 in storage that hasn't been powered up for years.

I'm not 'shure' how many mics I have, but certainly an excess. I've decided to start selling some of my stuff (I'm 57) because it's crazy to keep buying this stuff when I don't even have time to play on a regular basis anymore. But I was sitting here listening to my favorite blues show  last night scrolling through ebay and nearly bid on a biscuit just because it was there!

So my question to you guys is what is a reasonable number of mics for a casual player to own? How many do you have? One day at a time, James

They say the first thing to do is admit you have a problem.....I also have the very same problem.......I know how you feel......all kidding aside, I also wonder how many are enough.  I can't answer that question for myself.

I made a comment earlier about my ebay summary........I just checked........I'm currently watching 8 different mics.......I just bought this one today because I feel like I got a deal (provided it works).  I'm not going to open the cases to see just how many I have.........I don't really want to know.  I don't have an amp addiction (yet anyway) so it's really not a mounting money issue although the price of mics seems to be going up by the day........I just like cool stuff.

I don't really have an answer to your question "how many are enough", I'm afraid that we'll all just have to make up our own minds on that one.  Good luck....(BTW, when you are ready to thin the herd.......let me know Wink )

Jeff, what you have is so common it has a name. You have GAS.

Gear Acquisition Syndrome.

I'm guessing that a TUMS doesn't work in this case....... Laughing

After realizing that this may very well indeed be an issue for me (I'm not exactly sure who I'm trying to convince here) I even thought about thinning my herd also.  I had a buddy tell me that he indeed did the same thing a few years back and kicks himself all the time and has spend years and a boatload of money trying to re-aquire them again.  I'm affraid I would deeply regret it.  He recommended I just don't purchase anything else for a while....... Rolling Eyes  yea.......right.

So I did come to a decision on it.......heck with it.......I'm keeping them and ya'll can't have them.....their mine........mine I tell you........mine..... Laughing

I think that most of us who are on here are in the same boat.  For me, the main catalyst was discovering ebay about 4 years ago.  Since then I've accumulated about 15 tube operated units (combos & old PA heads), somewhere around 30 mics, as well as numerous elements, speakers, tubes, mic connectors, etc., etc.

In my case, I've got to start parting with something before adding something else to the collection...but so far I've only been a buyer and not a seller.  Before I made my 1st ebay purchase, I was warned by a seller (of vintage mics) that I should be careful not to become addicted...I should have listened!!

I got my mic in the mail yesterday...........smokin'.   The dynamic element sounds a bit different to my ear, but I like it.  The shell itself is handy.  Considerably smaller than a JT30 or a bullet and considerably larger than a stick mic........very comfortable.  The guy I got it from said it was NOS and all he did change the metric screw connector with a 1/4" female jack.........he was telling the truth.......came in original box too...  There was some small pitting on the chrome ring around the grille but I would have expecte more considering it's age.  Smooth deal.

Here it is.........it came in the original box, I made the little pouch for it's new home..........

I've gotten most of my mics through trades and I've been VERY lucky, I got to test drive them before we made a deal for them.

I did however just institute the "Jeff must wait 30 days for any further purchases" rule.  It is self imposed........

Gear addition

I think what is missing regarding this soul search is the 2nd part of the 1st step here at  H.A. (Harpgears Anonymous) "We admit we are powerless over harpgear" BUT have "our lives become unmanagable"? Are we not showing up for work due to an all night EBAY harpmic searching bender. or have we lost our drivers license for driving under the influence of a Marine Band. I think not! How about padding your company expence account to come up with extra cash for a dozen Switchcraft panel mount adaptors. Do you tell your wife you are going up to the 7-11 for gum and really ride around and play the new Special 20 you just got. I say  no. We dont hide mics in the toilet tank so we can sneak a practice cup when we need one and they dont have Gear rehabs. Could you imagine Amy Winehouse singing "They want me to go to harp amp mic rehab I said NO,NO,No". This is unbelievable. Is it a disease or lack of moral fortitude? Will my insurence cover the treatment?........ We may be problem Harpgear people but we dont qualify as HARPAHOLICS   Thank you,JOHN

Oh my, that was funny!  Ok, I will admit to only a couple of those.  You have to guess which ones.
