Filling holes in shell

I have a jt30 shell that someone drilled a hole on the top.
What's the best way to fill it ?
jbone

how technical do you want to get?  you could have someone weld it in with pot metal which it's likely made of.  or use jb weld, which is like a steel putty.  either way you go you will lilely have to sand the excess off and polish with finer and finer sandpaper or emory cloth until you can't see a difference or much of one, and then paint that sucker!

How big is the hole? Like, was there a volume control there?

I usually make little black black plastic caps on the lathe to fill holes like this - looks OK if you aren't up for a lot of body work and painting. If you tell me the exact diameter of the hole (to a .001", ideally - then I can make it a snap-in fit) i'd be happy to make one for you.

The easiest way to repair a hole in the shell I've found is using JB weld.  It requires a lot of sanding, kinda like Greg said, but to me that's part of the fun of working on them.  Taking something that's been damaged and turning it back into something beautiful again..........

Like any body work, the finished product is formed by the amount of filling and sanding and prep work.  If there are any blemishes, they will show up on the final paint job.  Hammertone paint can help........this one had a hole in the side of it where someone (not me) had installed an on/off switch on the side............I repaired it and put a hammertone finish on it...........nobody knows but me................It's a lot of fun if you like working with your hands............

Thanks for the help. Guess I'll try the JB on the old JT
It's about 1/4 in.

I taped the outside and filled with the epoxy from the inside.
