how much effect does the silk have?i often run the mikes i use with no silk.i got it in my head years ago that would muffle the sound.i'm wondering if i was wrong,and what people use as silk other than......silk.also is there any cloth people have found to be too much muffle? |

depends on what's used. True silk doesn't make any difference except to help keep dust out of the element. I've seen some people use paper, cardboard and acoustically-non-transparent foam - sometimes to tame an overly bright element - and these DO affect tone.
