Information about a mic element needed.

I found this interesting tape-recorder at my grandmother's house... It had this cool looking microphone attached. So I tried turning it on, but the tape-recorder didn't work nomore... So I opened up the microphone and it had this weird looking element in it.

So please, help me out with this.
Anyone seen something like it? What do you think it is? Could it be useful?

Thanks for the reply.
Think it could be useful?
Or maybe I can go get some old telephone... Or should I just go buy a new mic... Those Superlux D112 mics look interesting; 'cause it's within my budget.  Very Happy I'm just a poor little student.

I just talked to my neighbour... He's quite good with his hands and has a lot of iron/metal stuff. We're going to craft some cover for this mic.

Thought I'd post the start of this little project.

If everything goes according the plan, this is going to be one tight design. Not sure about the soundquality, but still...

Any one got some ideas 'bout the element? I know it is made in Holland and my grandmother used it in class, some 40 years ago.

No telling really.  If it dates from the 40s, it could be a carbon element, like is found in a telephone.  Fire it up and see how it sounds.  If it's got bass, you've found a gem!

Going to hook it up this weekend...
So a carbon element is useable?

Gettin' really curious. Smile
Jeffrey Spoor

Carbon elements require some voltage.  So if you don't get any noise out of it, that could be why.

Okay, so I got some background info at this taperecorder forum...
It seems to be a magnetic mic with a high Ohm rating.

Seems useful, right?

I don't know what the element is, but that is not a microphone, it is a hand held shower head, the type with the hose, that you hang in the shower. I think it's a Moen. It's not old either, because it has the rubber jets on the head.
Is this a joke or what?
Union Plumber for twenty years, so I know what I'm talking about.

Might be an American Standard shower head.
The old Gasket Man

No way.  Price Pfister.  Dephinately.
