JT-30 press-fit 5/8" screw-on connectors?

Hi guys,
I just got a JT-30 shell in that has a hole drilled through the original screw-on connector, to allow a 'pig-tail' to be attached.  I want to replace the drilled-out connector.  I've put plenty of 5/8 Switchcraft connectors into Shure shells, and have all the bits, tap, etc. to do that, and have also put them into old hard-wired JTs, but have  never taken out a JT connector before.

Has anyone replaced an original JT-30 connector and, if so, will the hole left allow tapping out for a replacement.  Any other advice?  thanks, gang!

If my memory is correct, you'll find the hole is a little too big for tapping. It might grasp the knurled part but I don't rely on that as a good long term solution. I usually drill the hole out even larger so I can put a bushing in there, sized to press-fit into the new hole, and internally threaded for the screw-on connector.

I've done one, but it's been a very long time.  I drilled the hole out with incremental sized bits until I could loosen it up with a pair of channel locks.  You can see what it looks like here:  http://www.harpmicgaskets.com/tricks.htm.  Good luck!
