New Grill Design

You never know when inspiration is going to hit. A couple days ago the idea for a new grill design came to me, very different than the ones I've done so far.  Here it is, comments welcome. I call it "Starburst". It kind of reminds me of some Dobro's I've seen....

All of my grill designs are visible at http://www.blowsmeaway.com/custommics.html

I wish it sounded rougher. It came to me..... by the pool. But yes, I did run to get a sheet of paper - then I spent about an hour doing the math and came up with a fully spec'd drawing. I've learned the hard way that failure to do either of the above results in a very high likelihood of failure. I'm glad I can "wing it" when I play some times..... but machining requires an incredible amount of planning and precision. Only THEN did I go attempt to make one. In fact, even then I screwed the first one up before I got the one in the pic.  I accidentally set my table to 190 degrees when I meant 180 for one cut - went about 1/2 way before I noticed. I went back and set it to 180 and did the full length cut. The  result is that one slot looks like the letter P. So I'm waiting for a customer named Paul, Pat, Peter or ... and I can offer them a personalized microphone grill!

Actually, it's time to go CNC.   Go ahead and bit the bullet.  You could be like OCC - fancy chopper rims and harmonica microphones.  Surely you can amortize it over, say 30 years or so!

That's a great idea Tim.........for those of you who have another 30 yrs to go........... Laughing
