I don't know much about 'em. They're a little big for my hands. The hum is either from a bad element or a bad ground. You're going to have to open the hood and have a look inside.

I have seen them too - nothing special but cool vintage look if you like that. If the output is low the element is shot (not a big surprise) - it can be replaced with a Shure controlled magnetic or something else and it will be a nice mic.

I have one of those, great mic, but like Tim, it doesn't fit my hands as well as others. If it is just a grounding problem and you're comfortable with the shell I wouldn't change the element. They are a little cleaner sounding than a CR or a CM, but I like that sometimes.
