I just bought a shure bullet mic with a mismatched shell/grille. So I am in need of a early smaller grille, brown bullet or 40's 707. chrome, nickel, or brown? The one with or without the the little RCA logo would be very cool too, it was a made for RCA mic. I have a home for the larger grille because my CR20 has a dented grille, but I do have other things to trade or will pay cash. Would be grateful for any help, I know this may be a tough one to find, but shurely someone has one laying around.

Brother I feel for ya...............the saddest thing is that you'd have a better chance finding a MALE calico cat............finding a mis-match or a damaged body with a good grille isn't gonna be easy. I'll keep my eyes pealed for you though, just in case.

The smaller brown bullets are so sought after that very few will part with them.............at least not for less than a small fortune anyway........

I've been a convert to the small shelled bullets for a few years now. I've never seen a grill alone for sale, but brown bullets are still available now and then on ebay ... sometimes for a decent price. I've scored a couple there in the last few months that were less than $125. I check ebay most days, so I'll watch for one...but I think your odds are pretty small.

Like Bluzboy, I've been a convert with the smaller bullets. He is also correct that they are still available on ebay. I check all the time myself, but I just can't bring myself to spend 125 on a shell..........the last one I got off of ebay, I paid 85.00 for it and it did work, but had low output and was pretty rough............I had it painted and I put a black label CR in it, now she's smokin'............to me, taking something that rough into something beauiful (and toneful) is the fun part of it.

As I wipe the egg from my face, I confess that I jumped to the conclusion that I had a small shell/lg. grille. because the grille is larger than the shell and will move side to side about 1/16". I was totally off! The grille is exactly the same as three other full size grilles back to back. The shell is a little whacky, a 707 grille is a nice fit in that it doesn't move side to side, but is considerably smaller than the shell. So it would seem that the shell is just a little off, it is larger than a 707, but slightly smaller than a 520, and maybe a little out of round, maybe something happened when they took it out of the mould? This is an unusual mic. It is a 1954 made for RCA w/ a smokin hot black CR, on a S36 stand. It is biege/grey and rather than the typical 1/2 watt resistor, it has a big old 2-watt bridging the element. There is no badge on the shell, the only markings are a meatball RCA logo on the stand and the typical markings on the element.

If anyone has ever seen one of these or knows anything about it please let me know.

Jeff, I too like the small shure shells, and $85 sounds like a great deal to me. I'm getting ready for my winter mic projects and will need some gaskets, are you not doing the crystal gaskets anymore?

it's funny you asked............I just got the first of the crystal molds back yesterday, I'm gonna run a test run hopefully tomorrow. We had a hell of a loss on crystals, that's why I stopped offering some models all together until we got the new molds back. Tim had a lot better luck with them, he worked with me pretty extensively but I still didn't have much luck. But hopefully that is behind us.

Don't feel band, I've run into it also..........I can't explain the differences between what is SUPPOSED to be identical grilles and shells.........It didn't even occur to me that was what it was..............glad you're back in business..........if it were me, I'd try the old match'um up the best combination and run with it.
